Water, electrics and a new BBQ..

Received an email from Heidi (at the notaire's oofice) - everything was signed on Tuesday 28th - only 13 days behind the original agreed date and the notaire had paid them compensation for the delay - which I was fuming about. We weren't asked to pay anything - it was just the unreasonableness of it all. They had delayed things by nearly four weeks by prevaricating over the C de V and then had the cheek to ask for a compensation for a delay of 13 days that wasn't anyone's fault. I think the notaire just felt it was worth the money to see the back of them

So we have the house . Unfortunately, although the vendors had the supplies disconnected, they didn't get the water and electricity meters read - and until that's done we can't get the supplies reconnected. Heidi, therefore, asked if we could send her the spare set of keys so she can arrange this and get everything reconnected. As we are going out there a week tomorrow we are hoping it won't take too long to resolve.

We went to buy a BBQ last weekend to take to France with us. We looked at the ones for sale near us and tbh they were pretty naff. We had seen some big gas Australian BBQ's in the warehouse here in the UK so went to buy one. We have to fit it in the trailer so are limited with the size. The only one they had left that was boxed was only a three burner - not very nice and which wouldn't fit into the trailer. We asked if the store would be having anymore in and were informed that - no, what we saw was what was available - the christmas stuff is arriving next week :S!! He did however offer us a discount on a display model. So MOH settled on a very large four burner beast and asked to borrow a screwdriver / spanner to dismantle it.

After twenty minutes of muttering, swearing and Charlie and I being instructed to 'stand there', 'hold that' 'don't move' in the blazing heat, he finally came to the conclusion - it wouldn't fit in the car. Solution - Charlie and I stand like chips in the car park holding the left over bits while he takes the first instalment home. Well we couldn't sit down - or go back into the store with the other stuff we had already paid for. So after nearly an hour we were getting a bit fed up. Particularly when a bloke mistook the base of the BBQ as a trolley and tried to load his compost bags on it!

Finally we arrived home - after much tutting, swearing etc in the garage (I kept well out of the way this time) BBQ is packed in the trailer - wrapped around with blankets (so washing machine will be needed pretty much straight away - provided of course we have water!). I'm just hoping he can find all the screws etc when we arrive....otherwise life won't be worth living! Still it will keep him good.
